ISWUK & 8build Specify AliDeck Senior Board & Balcony Drainage System at 3 Sheldon Square in Paddington, London

AliDeck has recently partnered with ISWUK and 8build to undertake a significant terrace decking project at 3 Sheldon Square, Paddington, London. This collaboration will showcase the innovative application of the AliDeck Senior board and Balcony Drainage System across multiple floors of the terrace deck, which overlooks a high-profile urban setting.

The primary objective of the Sheldon Square decking project was to provide a safe, cost-effective, and futureproof outdoor space for residents and visitors. To ensure safety standards were met, an efficient water management system was implemented for controlled evacuation of rainwater and spillage.

Our Ridged Board designs offer superior slip-resistance, a feature that becomes particularly beneficial for terrace deck projects where heavy footfall is expected, and minimal protection from the elements.

The need to bridge large spans between the lattice steel structures as per the architect’s design was no issue with our innovative solutions. Our Senior Decking Board spans a whopping 1200mm between supports on a 2kN point load to comply with BS 8579:2020. The use of our Supa Joists also supports these requirements, offering up to 3.5 metres between pedestals with an L/360 allowable deflection, based on a 1.4kN loading.

The 30mm Senior Ridged Board in RAL 7039 was selected for its durability and complemented by our Drainage Channels and Access Gutter for effective water management. This system was designed to meet the project’s specific needs while ensuring ease of installation and long-term performance. Jumbo Pedestal Brackets complete the system in order to create a robust subframe.

All AliDeck projects benefit from our in-house powder coating process, etching to 2 grams per square meter for unmatched adhesion and delamination resistance. We exclusively use Class-2 powders, ensuring superior chip resistance and longevity. This meticulous approach guarantees our decking solutions are not only visually stunning but built for durability and long-term performance, embodying our commitment to excellence in every project.

AliDeck’s aluminium decking boards, paired with our Nosing Profile, offer an elegant solution for integrating staircases into decking areas. This combination ensures a cohesive aesthetic while enhancing safety. The Nosing Profile, tailored for step edges, guarantees a smooth transition between levels.

One of the key challenges faced during the project was addressing the site’s unique architectural constraints. The need to bridge large spans between proposed lake steel structures required a creative approach to subframe construction. AliDeck’s engineering team worked closely with ISWUK and 8build to develop custom solutions that would ensure the stability and integrity of the decking system.

The project also presented an opportunity to demonstrate AliDeck’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. By employing aluminium, a 100% recyclable material, the project aligned with broader environmental goals, showcasing a sustainable approach to modern construction challenges.
