AliDeck visits AD Construction Group at Townmead House site to inspect completed balcony decking installations

In recent years, we have seen a relentless period of review upon the use of combustible materials used within the eternal walls of multi-storey multi-occupancy buildings. For thousands of pre-existing buildings, this could mean a severe refurbishment process to ensure the safety of leaseholders and occupants. AliDeck has supplied solutions to hundreds of significant projects across the UK, such as the Senior Flat Board used on the Townmead House project, and continues to innovate in line with current regulations.

AliDeck were fortunate to visit the AD Construction team on-site at Townmead House in Fulham, London, where work was close to completion. The residential balconies in question needed refurbishment to replace the pre-existing timber decking that had grown tired and weary with age.

The timber decking was not only a fire hazard but placed a visual eye-sore upon the building, with residents growing increasingly unhappy with their useable outdoor living space which many deem a luxury when living in major cities.

AD Construction Group is a refurbishment specialist company with an extensive geographical reach in London, the South East, and Home Counties. Having previously worked with AliDeck on a project at Davoll Court, we were all too aware of their great craftmanship and understanding of our products.

In order to create fire-safe and future-proof balconies, AliDeck supplied 6m lengths of our popular Senior Flat Boards with Clips, while AD construction also utilised AliDeck’s custom extrusion capabilities. By doing so, some more complex areas can be installed more easily, resulting in less waste, and benefitting the environment at the same time.

Before our 50mm low joists were installed to create a like-for-like support frame matching the previous construction, the existing timber decking and supports were stripped down to the steel subframe. The 30mm Senior Boards would then complete the system, finished in Quartz Grey (RAL 7039) with colour-matched clips to suit, one of our 10 standard colours available.

In the video below, you can see how the balconies were upgraded during refurbishment and the hassle-free installation process.

With aluminium being fire-rated to A2-s1, d0 and A2fl-s1 standards, the end result is a fire-safe and compliant balcony that meets the current regulations. Furthermore, the systems comply with the requirements of BS5879:2020 and the drainage requirements for older buildings.

We offer a minimum 60-year life expectancy and a 30-year product warranty on aluminium decking, so it won’t need to be refurbished as often as timber or composite decking does. Only regular cleaning is required for the powder-coated finish to remain high-quality. Our systems require little to no maintenance.

If you would like to discuss further how we can best support and help you achieve compliant and fire-safe balconies for an upcoming remediation project, we’d love to talk to you. Simply contact us via 01622 534 042 or email info@alideck.co.uk.
