NS Engineering Upgrade Balconies with AliDeck Ultra and Lite Boards at Macquarie Quay | Coastal Aluminium Decking Solution
Residents at Macquarie Quay have seen a major transformation to their balconies thanks to the installation of AliDeck’s Lite Board and Ultra Board systems in anthracite grey. Working in partnership with NS Engineering, this coastal refurbishment saw approximately 1.5 kilometres of rotting timber decking replaced—covering around 20% of the development’s total balcony areas. The upgrade significantly improved safety and usability while aligning the balconies with modern fire safety standards.
AliDeck continues to lead the market in cost-effective, future-proof aluminium balcony systems. Manufactured and powder-coated in the UK, our products are engineered to meet the highest standards of performance and compliance. As a trail-blazing innovator in the sector, we pride ourselves on delivering dependable, long-lasting solutions that suit a wide range of residential applications.
Given Macquarie Quay’s coastal setting, all boards were powder-coated in-house using our seven-stage pre-treatment system and Class 2 Powder Coating finish to achieve Qualicoat Seaside Standard. This level of finish ensures exceptional protection against salt corrosion and guarantees long-term durability in marine environments.
NS Engineering, one of our trusted Approved Installers, expertly managed the project. With a wealth of experience across coastal refurbishments, they delivered a seamless installation with minimal disruption to residents.

Safer, Smarter Balconies with Non-Combustible Aluminium Decking
The original timber decking had become severely weathered and unsafe, with rot and splintering posing clear risks. NS Engineering began by removing all timber elements, exposing the existing steel subframes for inspection and preparation. Once the structure was confirmed as sound, installation of the new aluminium decking could begin.
AliDeck’s Lite and Ultra Boards were chosen for their strength, versatility, and contemporary design. Both boards feature a concealed-fixing system, ensuring a clean aesthetic and reducing trip hazards. Their A2-s1, d0 fire rating offers essential peace of mind, meeting BS 8579:2020 and the latest Building Regulations.
The Ultra Board’s integrated drainage system made it ideal for high-traffic areas, while the Lite Board was used for smaller balconies, offering a lighter profile without compromising strength. Together, these products provided a tailored solution across the development.
The anthracite grey powder-coated finish modernised the building’s external appearance and will retain its colour and integrity for decades thanks to its Seaside Standard coating. With a minimum life expectancy of 60 years, this system is built for the long haul.

Another important element of the installation was water management. Coastal environments are prone to heavy rainfall and salt exposure, making effective drainage crucial. AliDeck systems incorporate subtle sloping and integrated drainage features, preventing standing water and reducing long-term maintenance issues.
By choosing a UK manufacturer and Made in Britain accredited supplier like AliDeck, the Macquarie Quay project also benefited from shorter lead times, quality assurance, and fast-response support. Unlike other systems reliant on overseas sourcing, our domestic manufacturing ensures control, consistency, and peace of mind for clients.
The successful transformation at Macquarie Quay is a shining example of how proactive refurbishment can significantly improve both safety and aesthetics. These balconies are now not only compliant and fire-safe but also built to endure the challenging coastal environment.
With project success built-in, all stakeholders—from leaseholders to property managers—are pleased with the results.
