AliDeck’s #Stoptober fire-safety campaign emulated by London Fire Brigade drive to encourage smokers to quit to reduce smoking-related fires

As you’ll have no doubt seen, AliDeck have launched a #Stoptober fire-safety campaign, designed to help encourage smokers kick the habit to improve their health and increase their fire safety. This bold effort by the AliDeck team has been validated by London Fire Brigade (LFB) also taking the opportunity to use Stoptober to drive home the message that quitting smoking will help to prevent fires.

LFB highlight that so far in 2020, smoking is second only to causes of fire in London, with 98 people sustaining injuries and four people losing their lives in smoking-related fires. LFB also highlight a trio of recent fires on balconies caused by smoking; in Kennington in June, Bermondsey in September, and in Beckton only last week.

AliDeck are using #Stoptober to draw focus to the specific issue of fires on balconies. In the last three years, our research has revealed at least 873 fires on balconies occurred around the UK, with 420 of those being identified as caused by smoking. These shocking statistics are made even more upsetting by the fact that these fires are wholly preventable.

We are encouraging people to quit smoking to not only improve their health but to increase their fire safety. By removing the smoking materials from their homes, the risk of a carelessly-discarded cigarette or a knocked-over ashtray will be massively reduced. The logical conclusion must be that the more people that quit, the fewer balcony fires will occur.
